#SeptemberSongs Day 2 – The road through the woods

This is another song I learned from John Boden (I’m doing this roughly in the order I learned the songs so you’ll see patterns like this all month!).

It’s a poem by Rudyard Kipling with music by Peter Bellamy (more details).  Looking back at the words now it’s evolved slightly in my mind so doesn’t quite match up to the original but hey, that’s Folk music for you!

I love the imagery, particularly in the last few lines:

“Steadily cantering through the misty solitude,
as though they perfectly knew the old lost road through the woods.
But there is no road through the woods.”

Lyrics: From memory
Takes: 2 (Cracking version first time round but I forgot to press record!)
